Functional medicine is a systematic, holistic approach to finding the root cause of health conditions. There is a common theme in mainstream medicine that patients suffer from a DISEASE, where a functional medicine practitioner would argue that the body is in a state of DIS-EASE, and would seek to find the root cause. Common underlying causes of dis-ease include reactions to something in our diet, unhealthy behaviors, stress, and exposure to environmental toxins. A functional medicine practitioner works with clients to achieve long term results by identifying and addressing these root causes, and treatment often includes lifestyle changes and short term supplements to facilitate healing.
Conditions commonly addressed with functional medicine include:
Fatigue
Gastrointestinal Complaints
Sleep Difficulties
Anxiety and Depression
Resistance to Weight Loss
Thyroid Issues
Menopause Symptoms
Infertility
Asthma
Allergies
Headaches
Chronic Pain
Diabetes
Hypertension
Hyperlipidemia
…..and many more! We help identify the root cause of these conditions with an extensive health history, lengthy initial consult, and often review testing that you already completed.
If you would like to get started uncovering the true root cause of your dis-ease, schedule an initial consult.
It depends.
Results vary by each person. Some people feel dramatic improvement within the first days or weeks, others may take a longer. Our standard programs are for a minimum of 3-6 months. Remember, your body didn’t fail overnight. Years of stress and illness takes its toll, and it takes a proper amount of time to restore balance.
YES! Functional medicine is based on the idea that every patient is unique and that many factors such as family history, lifestyle, and environment interact with each other. For example, if you are diagnosed with heart disease, this could be due to a combination of genetics, diet, stress, and other lifestyle factors. Your treatment plan would take all of these into consideration to get to the root cause of your disease.
Rather than just treating your heart disease with medication or surgery, your treatment plan would also try to treat the things that are causing your heart disease. That could be changing your diet, getting more exercise, and reducing your stress levels. While some mainstream doctors also incorporate these elements into their treatment plans, it is not as common. In functional medicine, this is central to your treatment.

Initial consultations include a 60 minute video visit after completion of a thorough intake assessment that helps her get to know your health history and current circumstances. This rate does not include any diagnostics or treatment plans that may be recommended during our visit. It does include her time (approximately one hour) thoroughly reviewing your intake forms, labs and diagnostics you’ve provided from the past two years, and developing a treatment plan prior to your initial visit. She requests all clients provide any recent labs and diagnostics for review prior to this visit (included in cost). She generally is able to make some critical connections using recent everyday labs you may have done with other providers in the past two years. This also includes my time writing a thorough collaborative plan we have developed during our time together (generally one hour after the initial visit writing up a clear follow up plan with detailed info on all topics discussed).
During your first session, she will review the paperwork again with you, listen to your concerns, and lay out a simple and clear path to help you start your health journey. She will offer education on the areas that require support. These areas may involve various aspects of health and wellness, such as diet and nutrition, exercise and movement, stress management, sleep and rest, digestion, and so on. She suggests future sessions to monitor your success on your journey.
Nysha practices as a consultant in functional medicine and education. She does not provide any primary care practices, and requires that all clients maintain a relationship with their own primary care provider. If she suspects a disorder or condition that is not appropriately treated with functional medicine interventions, the client will be directed to promptly consult their primary care provider or emergent services (if indicated) about any suspected and concerning problems, when appropriate. If you ever have concerns of an urgent nature, you should consult your primary care provider or emergency services, as appropriate.
Nysha is not qualified to diagnose, treat, or order tests for any medical condition. She is a registered nurse (RN) who can only educate her clients within her scope of practice.
